Anil Nagathil studierte Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) und der University of Birmingham, UK. In den Jahren 2009 und 2016 erlangte er die Titel Dipl.-Ing. und Dr.-Ing. der Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Im Jahr 2007 war er Forschungspraktikant bei den Deutsche Telekom Laboratories, Berlin. Von 2016 bis 2023 war er als Postdoc am Institut für Kommunikationsakustik (IKA) der RUB tätig. Seit 2023 arbeitet er als Senior Research Scientist am IKA (derzeit beurlaubt). Von 2025 bis 2027 ist er Gastwissenschaftler an der McMaster University in Kanada, finanziert durch ein Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind statistische und auf maschinellem Lernen basierende Sprach- und Audiosignalverarbeitung, auditorische und neuronale Modellierung sowie EEG-Erfassung und -Analyse für Anwendungen in Hörhilfen.
